The Science Behind the Magic: How Keto Works!

Welcome back, future fat-burners! 🔥 In our last chat, we introduced the idea of Keto being a low-carb, high-fat way of eating that gets your body burning fat instead of sugar. But how exactly does that work? Let’s peek behind the curtain!
The key player in this story is a hormone called insulin. Think of insulin as a delivery truck that takes sugar (glucose) from your bloodstream and drops it off into your cells for energy or storage. When you eat a lot of carbohydrates, you get a big surge of sugar, and your body sends out lots of insulin trucks to deal with it….
Now, if you’re constantly sending out these insulin trucks because you’re eating carbs all the time (especially refined ones!), your cells can start to ignore the signal. This is called insulin resistance. When cells resist insulin, sugar stays in your blood, and all that excess sugar gets stored… you guessed it… as fat!. Insulin basically tells your body to pack on the fat, especially that stubborn visceral fat around your belly. In fact, insulin is the primary hormone that signals fat storage.
Here’s where Keto swoops in! By drastically reducing your carb intake, you keep that sugar spike low, which means you keep your insulin levels low…. When insulin is low, it unlocks those fat stores, allowing your body to finally tap into them for energy. Instead of constantly telling your body to store fat, you’re now telling it to burn fat!
This is also why Keto is considered a type of “fasting mimicking diet”. When you’re not eating (fasting), your body naturally runs low on glucose. Keto creates a similar state of glucose deprivation, which activates awesome processes like autophagy (your body’s cellular clean-up crew!) and shifts you into fat-burning mode….
